The city of Ames can become quite boring once you live here for 19 years, but it also has some amazing sights and sounds. I wanted to share some of my favorite places in my hometown with you today!
1. The Cafe
The Cafe is a restaurant that is located in North Ames. They are one of the Higher End restaurants in Ames. They pride themselves in using as much fresh and local ingredients as possible. Because of this, they have a seasonal menu which keeps the food fun and interesting. They also have some of the best desserts. Creme Brûlée and Jack Daniels and Apple Galette are just a few of their amazing dessert options. They also offer Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner making them the perfect for any occasion!
2. Cafe Milo
Cafe Milo is a coffee shop located in West Ames. They have the best coffee shop atmosphere. It's never super loud and the tables are spread out just enough to be able to focus or just close enough to have some company. Their chai lattes are amazing and their breakfast burritos are delicious! They also just happen to have the most comfortable chairs and couches of any coffee shop I've ever been to.
3. Ada Hayden
Ada Hayden is a lake/trail that is located in North Ames. It honestly makes walking/biking/exercising like 10x more fun. The full loop is about 3 miles and you can also walk the half loop which is about 2 miles. I could walk the loop like 3 times before I realize I'm actually tired. It's a great place to chat with friends, read a book (it's my favorite place to read my Bible), or just get away from everything.
Perfect Games is all-in-one fun with Laser Tag, Bowling, and an Arcade. My favorite thing about Perfect Games is that they have Medieval Madness Pinball. I'm about to sound like a total nerd for a minute, but this pinball machine is literal perfection! I play pinball to celebrate, to let off steam, or sometimes just cause. It's been something my dad and I have been able to bond over this year. The laser tag is also a lot of fun, as is bowling. Honestly, who doesn't love a good game of bowling, even if you think you're not that good, chances are you and your friends will all have a good laugh about it!
Ames, Iowa just happens to be the home of the Iowa State Cyclones. I grew up going to college football, basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics events. Our teams aren't usually that great (except in recent Basketball years), but it's a whole lot of fun to go out there and support your town in the stands. This past weekend, I got to attend the ISU vs. UNI football game, and even though I know almost nothing about football, it was fun to celebrate the touchdowns and eventually mourn the loss. This weekend is the famous CY-HAWK game. It's when our rivals, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, and our Iowa State Cyclones go up head to head. There's a trophy and everything. Guys, things get crazy in the Midwest. Anyways, loads of fun, a little competition, and memories that last a lifetime happen here, every year.
I hope you all enjoyed hearing a little bit more about where I'm from, and if you ever get the chance to visit, this will help guide you to some of the best spots in town!
