Yesterday I was able to go to the Apple Orchard for the first time in probably 3 years! So, you could say I was a little more than excited to head out there yesterday!
We don't actually have a Apple Orchard in Ames, we do however have a berry patch and an apple orchard just 15 miles away. So my sister and I headed out to Cambridge to Center Grove Orchard, Iowa to get our fall on! Sadly, due to Iowa's crazy weather, our apple ripened almost 2 weeks early, which meant we couldn't pick our own apples. Which I was personally very disappointed about. Luckily they sold them by the bushel, peck, or pound in their store. I ended up getting Mutsu apples. They are similar to Granny Smiths, they are green, tart, and great for baking pies! Stay tuned next for baking homemade apple pie!!!!
I don't know about you, but... I LOVE Halloween. SO getting the perfect carving pumpkin is at the top of my Fall To-Do List! As you can see, there were quite a few choices! In my opinion, the best carving pumpkin is one that is both tall and little bit fat. I'm not quite sure what I want to carve on my pumpkin yet, but if you have suggestions leave them in the comments below!
I had a lot of fun choosing out my pumpkin! My next pumpkin adventure is to find sugar pumpkins and use those as opposed to canned pumpkin! I have yet to find a place that has them, but as soon as I do, I will write about it!
And last but not least, we had to get some goodies! My sister got a homemade donut, caramel apple cider, and a caramel apple. I got a normal apple cider and a few caramels! Seriously all super delicious! If you have the chance to go out to an orchard or pumpkin patch, I say go for it! Get a group of friends or your family to out one day and enjoy the awesome Fall weather while we still have it!
Leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite part of October is! And also if you have any Pumpkin Carving Ideas (;
