This past weekend I got to participate in something pretty different! It was an online, Live Baking class. It was held through Facebook Live and one of my favorite YouTubers hosted the class!
I discovered Yolanda Gamp on YouTube a few months ago from another YouTuber that I follow. LaurDIY was moving to California from Toronto and wanted a cake, so she turned to a fellow Canadian to make just that! I checked out her channel, HowtoCakeit, and was immediately hooked by her gorgeous mega cakes.
So fast forward about 2 months and Yolanda is announcing that she is going to host a Live Stream Baking Event. I knew that I had to sign up for it! So I signed up immediately and got Early Bird Pricing and ordered all the necessary equipment. Fast Forward to July 23-24. The weekend has arrived! I could not be more excited to bake for 5 straight hours!
For camp, we would be making a Watermelon Cake and an Emoji Cake. We would be covering our cakes in Fondant, which is new for me, and making everything from scratch. It was awesome getting some insider tips from someone who has been in the baking business for like 15 years.
The Emoji Cake is honestly one my most favorite cakes, I've ever made. I actually ended up giving to a friend as her Birthday Cake! Such a cute idea.
I painted fondant for the first time, which was an interesting process! This is my watermelon cake! It was a pink velvet cake with no actual frosting and chocolate chip seeds! Such a cute summer cake!
All in all it was an awesome and extremely tiring weekend! I learned so much! And would highly recommend checking out both of those YouTubers! Both have quality content! Hopefully you enjoyed this blog post! I am also proud to announce that I will have my first sponsored blog post! I am officially a Ragu Homestyle Sauce Ambassador! So check back next week to see what Homestyle means to me, as well as a new recipe!
My name's Abby. I am a Iowa Culinary Institute graduate, current owner of a small online bakery, and a transaction coordinator to a couple pretty cool realtors. All in all, life is busy, but the kitchen never changes, so join me as we Take on the Kitchen!
