Hello Everyone! This is my very first blog post ever! I am excited to start this journey known as blogging.
*If you want to read some of my back story go a head and click on the about tab!*
So basically I am enrolled at the Iowa Culinary Institute through Des Moines Area Community College. It is a total of 64 credits that usually get completed over the course of 5 semesters. In the program there are classes that range from general cooking, baking, serving (fine dining and casual), math, english, speech, management, and international cuisine. I am currently in my last semester of this program. Through all of these different courses, I have found a new love and appreciation for cooking and baking. I also have found a new respect for anyone who is working in the food industry.
I guess I'll begin by telling you a little bit about myself. I am currently a freshman in college. I have been homeschooled every year, except for my freshman year of high school. During my senior year of high school, I decided to take some free classes through my local high school, to dip my foot into the waters of Culinary Arts. Little did I know that I would make lasting friendships, cook some awesome food, and really discover a new me. During my senior year of high school I completed a total of 31 college credits. I only took one class during my summer semester, it was Speech. And after that I was taking classes with the big dogs.
Most of my schoolmates 5-10 years older than me. I was nervous at first, because I hadn't really worked with people much older than before. I found that having older people work alongside you, gives you a peak into all of the life experience they have to offer. I'm really thankful for all of the people in my section (SHOUTOUT TO SECTION 6!), as a section we push each other to really be the best chefs we can be.
So that kind of gives you a glimpse into my world at the moment! I will be back in a week to tell you all about the French Chef Exchange program we have through our school!
My name's Abby. I am a Iowa Culinary Institute graduate, current owner of a small online bakery, and a transaction coordinator to a couple pretty cool realtors. All in all, life is busy, but the kitchen never changes, so join me as we Take on the Kitchen!
